Major Religious Shift at Supreme Court

While lots of attention is being paid to how Sonia Sotomayer would be the first Latina on the Supreme Court, another major change has already happened at the high court.

In this majority-Protestant country, only two of the justices are Protestant. And if Sotomayer is confirmed, there will be only one Protestant. The court will have six Catholic, and two Jewish justices.

Tomorrow morning in the CNN Newsroom, our Josh Levs will show us the religious breakdown of the United States, and how much it differs from the Supreme Court.

What does the the court's "Catholic shift" mean to you? Is it relevant? Is too much attention being paid to the idea of diversity? Let us know.

And then join Betty Nguyen and TJ Holmes tomorrow morning in the CNN Newsroom, beginning 6am ET, 3am PT.

An odd story. The news waves have been saturated with GM 's bankruptsy. GM is asking for concessions from labor unions, suppliers and anyone else willing to let them off the hook for their poor decisions during the past 101 years.

Last week a funny thing happened to me. I was in Bahia, Ecuador. I tried to make a 14 day reservation at a hotel in Bahia, but was told that I could only make the reservation for 10 days because a convention was comming to town and every hotel in town would be full. I said ok and booked for 10 days. I didn't give it another thought until my last night, when I found out the convention turned out to be emplyees of General Motors. It seems that more than 400 GM Employees poured into town. GM paid for all airline tickets and hotels for 4 days. My wife speaks Spanish and at a restaurant she overheard several conversations from several of these Ecudorian GM employees. They said, "No, our jobs are safe and always will be. It's the Americans, with all their demands who have to worry. "

I'm embarrassed to know that we have spent so many tax dollars to help a company who still throws money away like its candy. If I owned a company that was in financial trouble, I believe I would watch my pennies and not sling my taxpayer money around.

    How about you?

i would appreciate the news being about anything other than the supreme court. there is other new news that can be on the "crawl" instead of decisions rendered by sotomayor. how long will the crawl be devoted to only this topic. i have seen it enough. although I dont remember seeing this when alito and roberts were being vetted.
its a long way to any hearings. put the news back on.

Is anyone else concerned by the overabundance of Catholics on the Supreme Court? Not to denigrate that religion, but since we, the people, use race, gender and everything else to decide ahead of time what a Supreme's bias will be (and don't let them fool you...bias figures into every Supremes thinking), why should Catholics have such an influence? Remember, there have been Cardinals who excommunicated people for their vote. Who's to say that a Supreme hasn't been "guided" by the Pope to make certain rulings.

Perhaps the reason they predominate is that Republican presidents have been gunning for Roe v. Wade for decades and they chose Catholics because their views on abortion were a given.

I have heard enough about Judge Sotomayer. Give this person a chance instead of "digging" at her because of this, because of that!
She may surprise everyone, if she is confirmed to the Supreme Court. This country is turning into too much hate, radicals and too much squashing of "freedom of speech". Get over it – this is supposed to be America!

No you're all wrong, america should kick out all the white catholics, then the country would be....uh oh it would be on welfare with no one to pay the bill and a bunch of 7-11's with no customers. To h**l with whitey kick him OUT! lets all convert to Islam and be just like Afganistan, yeah! Ladies are you ready for your new wardrobe? I'm ready to be allowed to abuse you and to degrade and oppress you! I'm ready to watch the Taliban "fix" everything Whitey has ruined for all you good people. The Pope is probably plotting right now how to run Judge Sotomayor's every decision. How has the world tolerated this white domination? Maybe Judge Sotomayor can convert to santarita and make decisions by bleeding chickens! at least it would be a wise hispanic womens decision and not some white man's. Oh the heck with it let's just pay for another party at the white house or a trip to new york. And that name "White house" we need to do something about that for sure. Let's all boycott white bread until they make it more diverse, then we'll go after flour AND SUGAR! It's all the devils work, rise up all you oppressed people and get yours cuz I'm gettin' mines!!!
