The Sounds of the Summer

Summer 2009 is slipping away fast, soon to be just a memory. So how about a little more fun before it’s gone! We want to know what song best sums up your ’09 summer – the one that’ll bring you back when you hear it again years from now.

Tell us about it. We’ll go down the list, and maybe even try to play a few of them on air!

This summer was great because all of my friends were on break from college for the first time in 3 years. I got to see them again once more before taking the plunge into my overpriced college textbooks. I wish them all good luck, and I hope Sara has a good first semester of college.

    That I never could find.

Anything from the The album Give Up by Postal Service but especially Sich Great Heights and The Distric Sleeps Alone Tonight. For better or for worse I will forever associate those two songs with a glorious summer spent in Boston. Even the rainy June couldn't ruin such a good summer.

The best song to me this summer is probally "Break Your Little Heart – All Time Low", the reason being is that is the song i had playing in th background when i first met my girlfriend and she was the highlight of my entire summer, it also happens to be her favorite song from the "Nothing Personal" album.

"School's Out For Summer" by Alice Cooper was always perfect for the last day of school. It captured that sense of freedom and youthful rebellion that gave me and my friends a battle cry. A true classic.

So many great American icons have passed away this Summer and it has been quite sad. "We are the World" by Michael Jackson sums up my Summer of 2009. Life can be so short, all of us have the potential to change something in this world, and it is time to start living!

This summer I heard one of the best summer songs of all time. It's 'Say Hey" by Michael Franti and Spearhead

Another song that has been a significant part of the summer 2009 soundtrack is "United Breaks Guitars" by Dave Carroll and Sons of Maxwell. It's phenomenal popularity suggests a few things about this summer. People are frustrated with the way air travelers are treated. People are thrilled to find someone making a humorous and creative attempt to express that frustration. We love a good "Dave" vs. Goliath story.

Man in the Mirror – every time I hear this song it will remind me of the summer that Michael Jackson died. The summer that I had tickets to see him in London and my first trip to Europe. Many of these memories are happy ones because I still went on my trip (already have the plane tickets) and I went with my 3 best friends.

I remembered the old Michael I loved when I grew up and enjoyed so much of his music all summer long celebrating his life.

Les Paul was a friend of mine. One of my favorite songs is
How High the Moon. Les used to let me sit back stage with him
at the Iridium in NYC on my birthday.

My favorite photo of him is while he shoots the bird at the audience

My Song for the Summer of 2009 is "Working Class" Written and performed by Walter Trout.

I was working in a factory
    On the edge of town
    The company moved to Mexico
    They closed the factory down
    My next door neighbor
    He got a Phd
Now he's in the unemployment line
    Standing next to me
    Down on the corner
    Their boarding up the store
They call us the working class
    But we ain't working
    We ain't working anymore...

I find it illuminating that some people were more upset about the President's education speech than about U.S. torture, the assault on our Constitution and the blood shed in an unjustified war.
