Is It Worth $2.5 Million?

Wanna buy an ad to run during the Super Bowl?  Well you are, whether you want to or not.  The  U.S. Census Bureau is buying a $2.5 million commercial in the third quarter.  That's on top of a couple 30-second spots in the pre-game show.  All with your tax dollars.

Census officials say it's actually a  good deal for taxpayers since close to 100 million people will be watching Sunday's big game.  They say getting the word out to that many people will  save millions in the long run, by offsetting the cost of sending census workers to households that don't return their questionnaires.

Critics say it's a huge waste of money, and exactly the type of out-of-control spending that inspired the Tea Party movement.

What do you think?  Money well spent, or a big waste?  Leave us a comment.

With all of the people out there with no employment, no healthcare (because of no job), and about to loose their home, can't the government focus that money to a better cause? I mean as they say on one Football Pre-Game Show (no name or network affiliates given) C'Mon MAN!

Way to keep em' honest Chris!

It comes around every 10 years

Since people need to told it is coming and this has always been done before...you know spend money by giving ..OUR MONEY TO CORPS..to INFORM the general public at large
NO ONE EVER worried about before....strange a problem now

How about these large corps...give a 30 second spot for the people then we would not have to spend just to let them know

Then the GOV...could use this ad money to make provide fact sheet that WILL be needed to combat all the negative rumors ALREADY started about the BIG BAD GOV....and try to stop the scare tactics already in progress

You know this country is HUGE and they need to use all means possible to get the word out to have people fill thee out...why..it is for their best interest.....the BIG BAD GOV....then will know where the money is needed for programs...and where and how many people in areas for representation on many fronts

If they do not ...as many in certain groups say it is because the BIG BAD GOV only wants this to spy on you..interefer....they are already refusing to take part

    in addition to the above comment;
The People should not because of the figure of the "Money" to forget the Human Feelings! What I'm trying to let you all see here is that, If you have to send People out to go and be convincing the Citizens, this will give many People the Feeling of being usefull for the People of the United State of Amerika and now, you have tryed to reduce the cost and for only Thirty (30) Second you heard that it will cost all of you 2.5 Million Dollar and you're now called to protest against this, can you see what I'm trying to point out to you?!
To be Intelligent is not only to be able to destroy or to tanish an Image of a President who care for those that has being forgotten since all the past Years, NO, I will like you (those who are claiming to be more Intelligent among the Protestant) to please use their Intelligency to surport the Good things that Obama is laying the Foundation for the Children to come and enjoy!
    I Bless you all!
    By for now!

who cares and who knows for sure if this is good or not! They probably did some studies to show that! There's more pressing problems ! Get the health care and get the army back home and you'll have health care!stop wasting money on weapons! You have enough to destroy couple continents so I wouldn't invest any more.

I think people shoud lighten up. It's the superbowl, there will be lots of ads on tv anyway.Whether we object or not, the ad will still run. And I think the Tea Party movement was inspired as soon as Barack Obama became President of the United States. How come these Tea Party people weren't outraged at George W. Bush when he was President. He inherited a surplus and left the country in debt. President Obama inherited a debt, and the tea party people are mad at him.LOL. Obama is trying to create jobs. It took us years to get into this mess, so obviously we won't get out of it overnight. President Obama has 4 years, the people should give him a chance, too bad they won't. I guess they expect him to snap his fingers and make everything okay.

The only people mad at President Obama are republicans and independents, which isn't that much of a surprise, not all of them, but a good amount of them. A percentage of them feels he is racist, another percentage feels he wasn't even born here. I guess if Fox news says i'ts true, then it must be true.LOL
