I am a 46 year old American woman. When we were kids the girls dressed and acted like the boys. It was commonly understood that in the US it was better to be a boy then a girl. When a boy insulted another boy he would call them a "girl".
Boys got better education, privileges, jobs, and freedom. I see no difference between Afghan girls masquerading as boys then American girls masquerading as boys.
In my first corporate job my income soared when I cross dressed in mens suits for years.
I was more respected as a man then when I dressed as a woman.
