Heartbreak is a powerful tool. Especially for singer-songwriter Justin Vernon, front-man of the band Bon Iver.
With a distinct singing style and the power of the internet, he turned one winter in 2006 into the launching point for his music career.
Brooke sits down with the Wisconsin-native to talk about how he found his voice, and how a few moments changed his life.
Great little interview. You captured the essence of 'Bon Iver'. We in Wisconsin are proud of Justin and the music he shares with us. Thanks for including him on your Music Monday!
I am a huge Bon Iver fan. I was on board from the early days of For Emma. Re: Stacks is one of my top 10 favorite songs! The new album has great depth and somehow surpasses his debut.
That said, Justin's voice sounds much better in the studio with all of the reverb and multi-tracking. In live clips like these it sounds very thin. It's almost like a different singer. And while he has a great sense of melody, he tends to miss notes live.
Absolutely unbelievable. Let's hope Justin inspires other musicians to create such beautiful music with an authentic sound.
Justin is incredible and what he has built Bon Iver into is incomparable. Recently had the chance to see them in concert and would totally follow them around (unstalkerishly) and listen every single night if my life permitted. They're THAT good.
