One of the things not mentioned in your Gladys Knight interview was that Gladys Knight was one of the artists to appear in the very first SOUL TRAIN national TV pilot in 1971 along with a group called Honey Comb, Eddie Kendricks and up and coming Chicago recording artist named Bobby Hutton who he incorporated in to the pilot to show how the show could combine the established artists as well as expose new artists like Hutton who performed a song on that pilot show written by Donny Hathaway. I have seen a lot of footage of SOUL TRAIN with the exception of the inaugural show and you can go to the Facebook Page of Bobby Hutton and see the actual link of that footage. While the local artist Bobby Hutton may not have achieved the status Knight, he is still a part of the legacy of Don Cornelius being handpicked to be a part of the first national TV Pilot show in 1971.
