    Dear Don,

I wanted to give my opinion on this debate, also I watch your show when it is on. I wanted to say that as an adult- I was raised by my grandmother and godmother, rest her soul, who were both Lesbians. So let me say this to all those who think that persons who think marriage is only between a man and a woman. I was raised with the best love and care any parent; single, gay, straight, can give. And I'll tell you something else, when I got pregnant at a young age I turned to my grandmother and asked her to raise my daughter because I knew I could not. How dare anybody say that marriage is only for a man and a woman- let me ask everybody who thinks it is. Just who do you think you are? I was raised that love is love, cherish it and let it grow it doesn't matter who it's between Don. It doesn't matter at all.

Don, your followup piece with the guy form Heritage was a mess. You were not prepared. You need to understand the distinction of illegal and "not legal". The Heritage guy is right that religious gay marriages are not illegal. But they are not legally recognized. They are not legal, and do not enjoy the legal protections given to heterosexual couples. But the are also "not illegal" and you let that guy tie you in knots.

Also, he asserts the government should not impose a definition of marriage. But it has before. It has said that marriage is for two people – not polygamy. It has said that marriage is legally dissolvable – irregardless of religious views to the contrary. It has said that it is for people of a certain age, historical aberrations to the contrary. Now saying that the government's interest in stable and legally recognized families extends to same sex couple fits in with the many ways that government has defined marriage again and again.

You looked bad accusing him of "spreading lies", when he was just better prepared than you were. He was splitting-hairs, and using facts in a self-serving way, but he ricked you into being the one that stated inaccurate things. You can do better!
