Obama Calls For Restraint In Ferguson

Shortly after the Ferguson grand jury decision was announced, President Obama addressed the nation. He spoke about the need for peace and restraint. While the president was making these comments the situation in Ferguson turned violent.

Brooke Baldwin speaks to Global Grind Editor-in-Chief Michael Skolnik, as well as private investigator Rashid Abdul-Salaam about the timing of the announcement.

PROSECUTION ATTORNEY STRATEGICALLY GAVE THE VERDICT AT NIGHT FROM THE GRAND JURY TO DIVERT ATTENTION OFF OF THE EVIDENCE AND PUT IT ON THE LOOTERS ETC. HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING. HE WORKS FOR THE CITY, AND NEEDED A DISTRACTION OFF OF THE EVIDENCE AND PUT IT ON THE PEOPLE, THE SAME GOES FOR POLICE COVERAGE ETC.YOU CANNOT TELL ME THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT TIME THE VERTICT WAS GOING TO BE ANNOUNCED, THESE PEOPLE SEE EACH OTHER EVERY DAY, AND WHY DIDNT THE POLICE OFFICER TAZE THE YOUNG MAN, AND THE PICS OF HIM AFTER THE ALTERCATION ARE WEAK, THAT IS FROM THE WIND BLOWING ON THE SKIN AND THE HEAT(IT WAS SUMMER) THE ABRASION ON THE BACK OF HIS NECK IS FROM ELECTRIC CLIPPERS. GIVE ME A BREAK, THERES SO MUCH MORE I COULD SAY, WHAT THE LOCAL GOVERNING BODY DID IS THE OLDEST TRICK IN POLITICS DISTRACT ,DISTRACT, DISTRACT.YOU MAKE THAT CALL THE NEXT MORNING AND KEEP IT SILENT UNTIL THEN GET YOUR PEOPLE IN PLACE ) 0 LOOTING VIOLENCE ETC. CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT IT'S JUVENILE WHAT THEY ARE DOING KING BABY TYPE BEHAVIOR. THIS IS ONLY A MICROCOSM OF POLICE VIOLENCE BEING OVERLOOKED ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. THKS, WHITE MALE 49

I'm blown away at this reporting....don't even know where to start..first maybe Obama will rethink immigration...second, it is a tragedy what happened to mr brown...but as a parent, if my kid robbed a store using force, and the 5 minutes later punches a cop n gets shot? GAME OVER. We can argue how endangered the officer was...( just like how many times did George Zimmerman s head hit concrete) but I'm sorry, sometimes bad things happen to people with bad intentions..to compare this march to MLK? He was a heroe, ! He wouldn't find this march/loot heroic...I feel like CNN iis a telethon promoting the march...SECOND GUESSING LAW INFORCEMENT. .? Sorry but I would rather the looting be at night..doubt that I would want to be caught during business hours sitting at my desk when the looters n fire starters disgrace not just our country, but the human race., which is the only RACE I know..the majority! Brother n sisterhood that supersedes all societal limitations...my prayers for the browns, my prayers for the officer...

AND, ALL THE TALK ABOUT HOW LAW ENFORCEMENT DIDNT PLAN THINGS RIGHT N THE VERDICT DROVE LOOTERS TO LOOT.? HUH? How pathetic...why don't we call as spade a spade. Looting is a disgrace, looters rank with the worst of the worst...say it!

re: the mike Brown shooting. in most poolice jurisdictions across the usa an officer is require by law to at least attempt to use a lessor form of force, such as pepper spray, taser, baton or backup before he uses deasdly force( a handgun) when
dealing with totally unarmed persons. i am a 30 year veteran of los angeles lcounty aw enforcement and a licensed firearm instructor. officer wilson must have had pepper spray or a taser. if not he was unprepared to be workinngg the streets in any city. His police academy and the police dept shooting policy should have included the above legal guidelines. He have stated that he coulld not have taken any other action besides shooting. not exactly true.

The people in ferguson,mo are in need of a voter registration program, so that they can recall the mayor, govorernor and that prosecutor and maybe a handfull of other officials. the blacks have the population numbers on their side. This is just one solution to the problem.

The news media condemned the police for having too much back up back in August now they're blaming the police ,governor, prosecuter for not having enough. Start blaming the real cause of the rioting and looting and that is the rioters and looters. Stop making excuses for them. We don't riot and loot just because we don't like something or it didn't go our way or we're angry. These protests across the country last night looked to be more like anarchy in the way they were chanting 'we own the streets', and 'we're taking back the streets' by the protesters. They blocked traffic and shut down streets and highways. What is to be proud of? If you add the total number of the protesters across all the cities it would only be as many as you would have at a football game or concert. The sad thing is if they would read the evidence that the grand jury heard the protesters would realize what fools they are and how they have been lied to by the news media and pundits. Read the facts and evidence and stop making this P.O A SACRIFICIAL LAMB for all the injustices you think white people do or have done to you. Miichael Brown chose his own fate by what he did that day. Start placing blame where it should be on him and the looters and rioters.

BTW, I hope P.O.'S all across this country and their unions remember how this President and Holder threw this officer under the bus without any facts and now knowing all the facts show their solidarity by their votes in 2016.

Well said...travon martin? Same thing...Miami heat takes a pic with hoodies on the day after the travon shooting...pure incompetence ...the reporting perhaps was the biggest disappointment .....they made these people look like heroes...great promo, blurred lines , great ratings...disgrace..I take responsibility for things around me, today I'm deeply saddened at our lack of substance as a people. CNN confirms yet again, it's a sleezy reality show with only opinions/agendas before journalism.....energy doesn't lie, we r all not idiots... I'd strip you of all that make up and fire a lot ( not all) of you..

This is to Carol Costello who had LZ Granderson stating that he doesn't believe the grand jury testimony or the police officers testimony because what black person would run toward a police officer with a gun? The answer is Michael Brown who just strong armed robbed a grocery clerk and we all saw the way he treated this clerk. Michael Brown then left and instead of running and hiding because of what he just did or at the very least walk on the sidewalk to stay out of anyone's view chose to walk in the middle of the street. Michael Brown was not afraid of anyone seeing him or the police. Then when confronted by the officer to get out of the street chose to confront the P.O. Yes, most blacks like we're seen with them smashing windows in and stealing property ,setting fires, etc run when they see police and hide. But Michael Brown chose to strong arm rob someone and walk down the middle of the street as if to say I'm not afraid of the police or anyone. These are facts that NO ONE can deny. Michael was a bully and a thug by his actions and his actions alone.

I just watched the interview with Carol, LZ, and Officer Fuentes. What angers many African Americans is the suggestion that Mike Brown is somehow different than any other teenager by focusing on his appearance. Carol even used subtile language by calling Mike Brown a "robbery" suspect rather than a "shoplifting" suspect. I don't think that this was intentional but it does show how black males are characterized. What happened to innocent until proven guilty or is that for certain people? Why are people quick to believe the eye witnesses and grainy store video but completely discount the many eye witnesses of the shooting?

Distraction from the evidence?? Thats pretty funny considering that Eric Holder has the complete file. So if there is a distraction it would be that justice was served, no bill was handed down but it just can't be accepted by those who speak against it. And this case can go to any court, anywhere and the same result will be the same,no indictment. Maybe Eric Holder should focus on not being a law breaker himself by involving himself in a state case where he KNOWS that there was not a civil rights violation. Abuse of power comes to mind. Good that he is leaving office because he can't do the AG job very good as is demonstrated by his actions.

  12. ckt54

Oh, now you're claiming the video was grainy? Are you serious? This was a strong arm robbery that Michael Brown committed and by his actions towards the store clerk and his actions after says he was not afraid of anyone or being caught by the police. This is exactly what will happen when and if police officers have camera's on them to record everything. You will have the blacks saying it was too grainy or the video camera has been tampered with by the white people out to get them. Camera's on the police officers will not satisfy these agitators and race baiters they will still claim racism it is how most of them stay relevant and make their money.

I would like to hear CNN talk about the 6 african american witnesses who testified to the grand jury about what they saw at the scene of the shooting. These 6 blacks were found to be telling the truth by the scientific and forsenic evidence that it happened the way the P.O. stated that it happened. Michael did not have his hands up and was not running away and was not shot in the back. These 6 blacks should be applauded and awarded for telling the truth. The other black witnesses who claimed Michael had his hands up and or was shot in the back were found by the grand jurors to have purgered themselves when the forsenic and scientific evidence showed they were not telling the truth they admitted on the witness stand they made it up and just got caught up in the moment and did not actually see him with his hands up .Why have you not reported this? You have 6 brave blacks who went before the grand jury and told the truth of what they saw which was the same account as the P.O.'S. But yet you're still feeding off the blacks who lied about what they saw and look what their lies has caused. This entire situation got out of control because Michael decided he could strong arm rob a store and walk down the middle of the street and dare any one to stop him. Then you have the blacks who lied about what really happened. CNN and the sorts saw a chance at big ratings and sensationalism instead of being reporters which are suppose to find the truth and facts. Imagine how the 6 blacks who told the truth about what they saw really happen must feel knowing by telling the truth they can't come forward for fear of being vilified and threatened now they know what it's like to be white.

The Ferguson killing could have been avoided had Michael Brown simply followed instructions from the police. Michael Brown is responsible for escalating the situation and it sounds to me that the people there want to be able to stand up to the police. Michael is huge, he just committed a strong arm robbery, assaulted the store clerk, assaulted a police officer and not once did Michael comply with the police instructions. If you don't comply with instructions by the police, the situation is going to escalate. Im feeling bad for the cop that had to deal with Michael. Im sorry his career is over because of a wreckless citizen.

It dawned on me as the marchers in Ferguson kept shouting " not. In our town" with pride...and I respect the possibility that a march to bring awareness to the police and the possibility of " abuse of power"...that is noble...but they picked the wrong platform which makes them look even more incompetent ....but having said that, if they really had so much pride in there town, why destroy it? I applaud the cop and his bravery, better man than I...someone has to serve the community of Ferguson ....now someone has to clean up more of there mess...

Brooke...first, LOVE your show. I am a converted FORMER Fox News loyalist thanks to you and Don Lemon. Regarding the segment I just watched regarding the 12 year old with BB gun killed by police, I wish CNN would dump Mel Robbins. She is nothing more than a misguided black pandering instigator. But worse, her legal analyses are faulty and tainted by emotional colorizations. She adds nothing to discussions but inflammatory lay observations or almost legal points. Her agenda is TV face time...she will say anything to get it. For that matter, dump Toomey, also. He just plain gets it wrong 90% of the time. Check his law credentials. I can see why he is former, whatever. But I remember from law school that the bottom of class always ended up prosecutors or public defenders unless it was someone from a wealthy family with political aspirations. Regarding the shooting of the twelve year old by police, the progressive anti-gun movement has created such a hypersensitive gun hysteria that events like this will continue to happen. When we get to the point where schools are expelling children for pointing their finger like a gun, the slippery slope will lead to these events. MSNBC, CNN, anti-gun billionaires, Bloomberg's Mayors against guns, mothers against guns and the rest of the anti-gun liberals are complicit in this tragedy. Regarding the police who shot the child, more of the same. Regarding anyone pointing a gun at anyone, real or not, guess what, this is the outcome! Parents please teach your children civil responsibility! You can't get in public and point guns or rob convenience stores of cigars and expect to be home for supper!

One last thing...regarding on-air talent, anchors and pundits, the English accents are creepy, alienating and confusing. This isn't England. I feel that the anchors are detached, located somewhere other than United States and certainly cannot relate to American issues; kind of like the Piers Morgan fiasco. I am so glad he is gone. I loathed him and his smug, dumb "Yanks", back across the pond, pompous, arrogant, narrow views. Unless it is Downton Abby or a Rod Stewart interview the accent is obnoxious and annoying. I typically will turn to other channels. If you are trying to come across as "global" then you have succeeded but will probably see that it has limited appeal as a brand. "Cheeky" that!

I can't make this comment without first saying that I am a mother and I'm not sure I could handle the pain of losing a child. My heart goes out to anyone who, suffers that loss. However, I can't help but ask where is the education for our teens. I am a white middle income 5 foot tall grandmother and have always known if I continually defy a cop and stick my hand in his car or assault him I can expect to be shot.

reply to Suzonne.slaughter re; "...where is the education for our teens. (punctuation)"; Easy answer...just ask an educator! A certain class of students reject the learning process and have no strictures in place to conform them to the conventions of learning which is designed on a military scheme. Many are not equipped to assimilate into that grid because they have NOT been taught it at home. These more than likely will be the "burden class" on our society like what we are seeing in the news now. The ills of our society can be traced back to the broken family unit and the "one self" obsession. My father taught me social responsibility and would say, "The measure of a man (human) is what he or she does outside the purview of others." He would pick up someone's litter on the street as a statement of social responsibility, albeit with a grim countenance. The liberal progressive agenda of excepting all social philosophies including those libertine and prurient, is achieved only by destroying traditional American values, mores and conventions which has far reaching intended and unintended consequences. We are now dealing with these problems "in spades" with no remedy in sight.

Everything can be solved through proper EDUCATION. All the ills of society is happening because the most important pillar in a society that is education is failing in its role. If a leader of a country neglects this pillar obviously violence, crime will be rampant. Parents and teachers have a great role to play I think. Education never ends; it is a womb to tomb process, so if we are PROPERLY educated then social order can be established one day!

If the president Obama make announcement could easily erase the panic crowed? I don't think so unless he made something significant change to the situation. So I am really curious why does Obama's PR team decide to make that announcement by the 8pm local time instead of 8am? Because it is common sense that the late response the worse.
