Ahead in the CNN Newsroom...

Wildfires are chewing through tinder-dry brush in centeral and southern California. One burning in Los Angeles County has grown to 20,000 acres and is threatening some 10,000 buildings.

The investigation into accused kidnapper Phillip Garrido widens beyond abduction and rape charges. We'll have an update from CNN's Ed Lavandera.

CNN's Brian Todd reports on future plans for the symbol of the Kennedy family's power: the Hyannisport Compound.

Activists on both sides of the health care debate have bus tours rolling across the nation to drive home their points. We'll drop in on the "Tea Party Express," now in Nevada.

The U.S. Open tennis tournament starts Monday with past champions Venus and Serena Williams on the opening day docket. CNN's Larry Smith joins us with a profile of an American teenager seeking her own U.S. Open glory.
