I am from India. I have been living in the western world for the last 13 years. I see that my travel and my imigration matters became dreadful since 9/11. I know where exactly the western world don't understand the terrorism of Al-khaida franchise.
First thing we need to understand is it is young muslims who are looking for Al-Khaida not the other way around. This boils down to avrage psychologicat tuning of everyday muslims in their mosques.
First muslims are taught brotherhood then they are regularly shown and explained about the autrocities going against them in this world. Mostly fabricated. Some are true because this world was not fair to different communities at different times. Even thogh some mosques don't ask them to retaliate that is what they feel as their natural duty. It is the teachings of Khuran that needs to change. It is the teachings in average mosque. There is nothing like moderate muslims. Since the average muslim brain tuning is not going to change this problem is only going to increase. Failure to understand these basic concepts and liberal views is going to hurt us.

Your news reports keep referring to "Thwarted" attempt to blow up the plane bound for Detroit. That attack was not thwarted. It failed. Thwarting the attack would have meant the terrorist would never been allowed on plane.

The attack was not thwarted. It happened. Fortunately it was unsuccessful.

Please stop mischaracterizing the attack has having been avoided.
