First of all every American needs a tie like the senator has he's an all American Joe second if you dont have a passport and you are not a constitutional documented American citizen then you have no right to be here you are breaking our American law if we were to do this in your country they would imprison us and throw away the key what we need here is an eye for an eye .

Are people really stupid enough to think that ICE watched tv and saw Michell Obama in Mexico and put together a raid that size in a couple of hours? Come on get real!

    It is a great idea!

My family were immigrants! But they were LEGAL and I am totally sick of those who champion the illegals acting like this country is tryint to stop legal immigration. Not only did my family come here from another country, but they SERVED this country. My father is a veteran of TWO wars. My grandfather was one of the first people into Japan after the bombing, serving with the military as a civilian employee.

The people who come here ILLEGALLY are BREAKING THE LAW. don't we already have enough home-grown law breakers, without importing more!

Isabel raises a valid point. There are many federal agencies in place to combat the issue of illegal immigration....illegal only after the free for all dumping from Europe many years ago when the land was litterally ripped from the hands of the Native Americans.
Giving the local police authority to do immigration work will only take away from the thugs out there robbing banks and the like.
Yes, illegal immigration does account for crime here...however, so does white collar crime.
In this day of corporate wrong doing, why not give the local police authority to review our tax records. Surely it would have prevented the recent economic downturn and save the lives who were lost due to murders for unpaid monies and sucides for lost monies.
Why don't we, you ask? Because we already have federal agencies in place for this.
If a concerned politician in washington cares about crime, don't single out illegals from Mexico....let's give local police authrority to cover all areas of criminal activity.
Are you able to see the problem now? I hope so. Let the police do their job and let the feds do theirs.

No doubt the neanderthals in the AZ state legislature and those who aid and abet them are celebrating passage of this draconian law.

However, (1) this law fails to contribute anything positive to the solution of our immigration problem, and (2) it will be found null and void by the courts because only Congress can make immigration law.

The issue is direct and frankly, simple. Illegal aliens are here and they need to leave. Had the estimated 15 million or so illegal aliens arrived at once we surely would have nuked them as an invading force. The method of alien invasion has been far less obvious but is just as dangerous. Illegal aliens seek to occupy America's land and to destroy American culture and language. The simple truth is that the population is unwanted and unneeded and a burden on America's economy, middle class, and educational system. The only acceptable definition of immigration reform begins with the clear understanding that mass deportation must occur – and changes in law (to prevent such acts as chain migration or anchor babies), border protection, and improvement in identification of American Citizens, and of course, improvement in the means used to identify those on our land illegally to prevent access of American jobs and social services.. We need to clean up America and we need to do it now. We have failed to acknowledge the needs and rights of the American Citizen and must refocus our actions to benefit those who actually belong in the United States.

Yes we need to secure the borders and allow law enforcement departments work with immagration and homeland security.

No we do not need to have USA citizens who are in this country for generations long before the European Decendents came west suddenly taking American born hispanic citizens and sending them to Mexico.

What am I talking about? In the Antelope Valley in California, just north of the Los Angeles forest, a Puerto Rican child (all Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico are USA citizens since 1917) was put on a plan by a police officer and sent to Mexico by himself.

So would this new law be an accident waiting to happen? Will it be a acted upon soley based on race? Are there guide lines to prevent Civil Rights Violations against all Hispanic,, Latino USA Citizens from happening? Will there be police officers abusing the law to destroy the lives of Latino USA Citizens? What about the Native American Citizens who look like Mexicans, will their civil rights be violated as well?

We have an issue Houston. Illegals have been coming to AZ before my times. However, now it is out of control. It is like leaving a wound alone so long that it either kills you or causes your leg to fall off. I have not fact checked the 50% of all AZ murders are done by illegals or that all women and children crossing over to the USA are raped, etc. However, I believe they are. The issue is how to we resolve this mess. I love our brothers and sisters from the south. I think we should bring our jobs from China to Mexico and equally place them around the entire country, so we do not have to displace the workers from their families. This will decrease or prevent human trafficking. The ones who are here in the USA right now and even their kids need to join the USA Military for a path to citizenship. Yes, remove the kid's citizen ship as it was obtained illegally and a benefit to a crime per The Son of Sam law.

The judge is completely correct. The government has no business promoting religion of any kind, and the day of prayer is a clearly religious activity. We need to take effort to get religion out of our government and politics, because this is one of many examples. It is ridiculous, and I refuse for my kids to have a cult (all religions are cults by definition) promoted to them by our government.
As a rationalist, I object. But more importantly, the constitution clearly prohibits the government from promoting religion.

Good morning Tony. I live in southeastern Arizona, about 3 miles from the border. I am not against immigration, I am against ILLEGAL immigration. Ms Garcia states that illegal immigrants do nothing but contribute to our communities. I beg to differ. Talk to anyone who lives here and they will tell you about our hospitals being bankrupted, our lands being trashed and our citizens being murdered. These are people who do not care about this country. How can they? It's not theirs. I'm pleased that our State is taking action . It's about time that our rights are put first. Is being here illegally a crime? Of course it is...what part of ILLEGAL do people not understand.

It is obvious that the State of Arizona is establishing a law which will allow police to act capriciously and to arrest individuals on impulse or whim. Such acts will probably be declared unconstitutional by state courts within Arizonal; if not, this law will be examined by federal courts and declared unconstitutional. The constitution clearly states that there must be reasonable cause, I.e., evidence, of illegal behavior for the police to arrest. A policeman 's belief is not evidence.

K-Pasa and Isabel do not get one thing I guess. The feds have not been doing their jobs, and this is why we have a problem. How hard is it to stop people from coming into our country illegally? How hard is it to contact somebody who goes MIA into our system from a student visa? It is not hard, so since our FEDs are not doing their jobs the States are allowed too and have too. They are not going to pull somebody over because of color, etc. They are when pulling somebody over going to ask for their own safety to make sure the car is safe for valid GOVT ID. If they cannot provide that they are going to arrest them until they can figure out who they are. There is no issue here. Our Police in AZ comes from all ethnic backgrounds, and they will handle this with intelligence. What was this native american stuff? We had a war and we took it over. If you want to compare this to that then everybody better get their guns out to defend what is ours.

    April 16, 2010 at 11:38 am |
  16. James Sanson

David Hutchinson – they are not going to pull people over thinking they are illegal. They when pulling them over for a separate crime going to ask for valid ID. If they do not have it they will take them in to learn who they are. We do not want more police officers killed by illegals in AZ.

I went to a tea party rally yesterday-I noticed the "entire" crowd was white, no other nationalities were there.

There we some young people there, but the vast majority appeared to be white retirees.

Foturnately for our country National Prayer Day has been observed for over 50 years. Our country was founded on the trust of God. Our money reads "In God We Trust". The beauty of acknowledging days such as "Saint Patricks Day", "Halloween", "Easter" – is, you don't have to participate.

In the State of California, we celebrate "Ceaser Chavez Day", a government day off for memorial of his accomplishments. Only 8 States in our country honor this day. Since other States don't acknowledge this day, doesn't mean we should not."

Final Thought: Our government should acknowledge National Day of Prayer. If the people choose not to particpate, so be it.

I think that many people are disingenuous where this issue is concerned, they want to benefit from the cheap labor that these people provide, i.e. (cheap food, maids, day laborers etc). But somehow, they want these people to provide all these benefits unseen. If all this fury is genuine, then make it a felony to hire an illegal immigrant.

GOOD JOB AZ! I wish all the states would do this! I'm not the only one to feel this way...but what part of "ILLEGAL Immigrant" do people just not understand? ILLEGAL = they broke the law. Like 'Homeless D in Atlanta' my family immigrated here, legally, AND served in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, as well as all the Gulf Wars.
How much more money are we going to spend on feeding, housing, providing medical care, as well as educating the children of illegal immigrants? They should be deported at the expense of their home country, maybe the $ amount taken out of any aide that the country may be getting....oooo, there is an idea! If a country knows they may be losing money every single time one of their citizens illegally enters the US...they'd have an incentive to keep their people home. Maybe then we'd have the borders covered better!
Bottom line, the US has immigration laws. If someone breaks the LAW, they are a criminal. PERIOD. They need to go back to their country. I get so mad knowing that we have AMERICANS going to bed hungry each night when illegal immigrants are being housed, fed, clothed, etc.

I think this is a more emotionally charged issue than health care, but I do not question the right of city, county, or state police to demand identification of anyone as a part of any normal police action. And, if such isn't provided, it is certainly within legal bounds to detain a person until such identification is made available.

This problem has been going on for a long time. The feds rewarded the illegal aliens by making them citizens. When the number of people crossing the border illegally went down crime here in phoenix went down.

Have the feds done anything about the crossings, no. So it is up to the state to do something about it. I am tired of the state being run dry by illegal immigrants that cannot pay for their services. I have a family member that is a teacher. She is so tired of the illegal’s in her class taking up her time. They take resources from the schools that are barely getting by.

Here in Virginia, many jobs (McDonald’s or cooks) were filled by teenagers, elderly, some college kids.

Now, those jobs are 100% filled with adult Latinos that have recently arrived to America (based on lack of English, lack of dental care, etc).

Unemployment for teenagers was 25% BEFORE the recession. The highest EVER recorded.

So we have 10 million adults illegally come to America, work for $8/hr, and have 2-4 kids that they send to free public school.

Sure the illegals work harder…it’s their bread, butter, their future.

But my neighborhood, county, state is MUCH worse off with the flood of poor illegals. Tired of the trash, overcrowding, sexual assaults, public urination, gangs, gang grafitti, etc…

immigration is defined as the arrival of settles in new countries and the control at an airport, seaport or border crossing where people entering a country must stop to have their passports offically checked. What about stricter background checks? For these immigrants, The facts are that there should be a more stricter checklist for immigrants that come into our country because of terrorism rising. Terrorism is real, not aiming to offend any one but it is something americans worry about. we cannot gurantee that every immIgrant will be a threat to our country but with in a few weeks more should be done in the future to check immigrants. As long as there is no criminal factors, reasons for us to be suspicious under the laws of national security or listings under that immigrant they should be allowed to come into the country. .

Illegal means illegal – they don't belong here. I'm all for green carded seasonal workers. But, they don't deserve to be here illegally. Illegal aliens are causing us billions of dollars. Do you think the cost will drop if we legalize them? Of course not. For my part, I think we should pull our troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and put them on the border. Let the drug lords take on the finest troops in the world.

What makes our southern borders so pourous ? I am so enraged over this ongoing argument between lawmakers/politicians, and people who thing are are dependent upon these illegal aliens of the Spanish persuation.
The wall hasn't worked because it never got finished. WHY ? The troops and more drones need to be brought in to secure the border, but our government will not for fear of upsetting our Latini neighbors.
If these people want in our country, then make them do it the way Canadians, or any one else of a foreign country. Apply for a visa and wait !
I'm a firm believer in what Eisenhower did back in 1953. Hold another operation WETBACK and send back a few million. Possibly make them finish the wall to work for their visa's while they wait. After all, according to Rick Sanchez, "they are the only one's who will do that sort of work".....end quote
I'm sick of it all. I want my country back and I want the English language back.

Hurray for AZ. !! The entire USA needs to do the same. What is so difficult about sealing our border with Mexico? If our gevernment has millions to send to Haiti and lots of other countries then surely there is money to build a fence. Less sent out and more spent on our own problems, that's all I'm saying. Yes, the illegals in our country need to be removed. The second ammendment to our US Constitution empowers Militias to do this very thing, repel invaders. Illegal immigrants have invaded our country. I'm not talking about crazies in the Militias we see on TV. I don't see any reason why the federal government, the state and local police and maybe even the National Guard can't work together with Homeland Security to form legal, organized modern day Militias to work hand in hand with law enforcement to rid our country of invaders.

This issues right here really simple and easy- We need to re-think back and remember how it was back in the day before the war and before all this commotion happen, its not hard to solve "Illegal Immigration is a slavery" they don't get benefit when they work here, they don't get medicare when they sick, and now after all hard work they done for us working in the construction field, and working in the plantation , and now They just going to throw them away like a garbage just because their social status, we need to think more deeper as a HUMAN BEING , is that fair , what if that was you and your family, how would you feel, they come over here because they trying to look for a better life , we as a human being need to see that and help them , this is not white people's country, learn your history , this is their land , American Indian are the native's people of this land, before someone massacre their ancestor and take their land from them.
It's not I'm trying to point finger and start blaming games on all of you.
but I need you to dig more deeper inside your heart and do what's right.

“Let them stay, but make them pay”
If someone arrived here illegally, words can’t change that they are residing here outside the law.
If someone breaks the law, they must be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
These 12 million illegal immigrants have taken advantage of what our country has to offer…..illegally.

Now, we should make them pay….legally. In the following order, we do the following:
    • We identify the illegals.
    • We visit them where they live and or work
    • We make out a monthly or biweekly payment plan for each one to cover for unpaid Social Security Taxes, Income taxes, Medicare & Medicaid Taxes, and for fines that they need to pay for breaking our immigration law in the first place.

Do I agree with the Arizona Bill? I agree with its intent, but by sending them home we won’t get re-paid for the services that they and their children have received while living here.

“Let them stay but make them pay”.

The State of Arizona has the power to control their illegal immigration problems. As a matter of fact, they have always had to power to control the problem, and so has every other state in the union. It's a matter of enforcing the laws already on the books that will deliver Arizona form it's horrible alien problem. Start with the money, arrest the business people who are providing the jobs illegally, and do nothing to insure the legality or authenticity of the documents provided in order to work in our this country. Put a few business owners in jail, give large fines, maybe several lose their businesses. The job provider has to know that if caught hiring illegals, he may lose big and is it worth jail and the loss of your business. If the jobs dry up, imigration will fall. Use the tools we already have. If the State of Arizona is so bothered by the problem. they need to make it a state priority, throw technology and manpower, increase training and education of the border employees. You know put your states money where your states prejudiced mouth is. Go after the enablers, not the poor imigrant trying to better life for him & his family. Arizona needs to arrest , prosecute and make example of Sherriff Joe Arpayo who makes mass arrests of all people of hispanic appearance, even those who are American citizens, in violation of our country's constitution. Shame on Arizona, man up & enforce the laws that already exist. Last, I would beg you to fire, arrest and put Sheriff Joe into the same cells he unconstitutionally caged so many in over the years,,,
