First of all, I commend the NYPD and Feds for the professionalism and quick response to the thug.
Here we go again. They say Muslim is a religion of "peace"' however, when all is said and done, I will bet they prove this guy is Muslim.
Over the last 60+ years, with the exception of Timothy McVeigh, how many terrorist attacks, worldwide, have not been carried out by a Muslim, the so-called "peaceful religion"?

Great!...Our country gives these Pakistani immigrants an opportunity for a better future and freedom...in return, they go out and try to bomb us...talk about being ungrateful...

Micheal Bloomberg should step down as he failed to secure NY. NY city is spending most of our hard earned us dollars on the security. How the hell this guy put a car bomb in the middle of time square? Lot of people would be dead by now if that bomb ignited and definitely Bloomberg would be responsible for it.

How can we trust the federal government to keep us safe when they come on national T.V. and bid for us to feel sorry for this thug .

Another thing. The media keeps reporting they don't know if this guy was acting alone or others were involved.
A question to our bright media: If he was acting alone, why was he trying to fly to Dubai? I know why. Because he could catch the next flight to Pakistan to reunite with his terrorist buddies who were helping him. Wake up media.

One thing we must be cautious of and I have not heard anyone mention is, What if it was not intented for this bomb to go off? What if this was merely a test to see how our civilian agency would respond? What if this was only planted for some terriorist cell to simply take notice of our tactics, our protocol so they can therefore better plan for a greater attack? There were to many mistakes and loose ends that came with this foiled attack. It definitely leaves me to wonder.

It looks like the US Justice Dept. is gearing up to outlaw fireworks and flash powder. This would be a terrible knee jerk reaction which would remove the liberty's and freedom's enjoyed by millions of American's that enjoy the safe and sane application of pyrotechnics.

There is NO WAY a firecracker is going to detonate Ammonium Nitrate which requires dynamite to shock that substance into detonation.

Our government has become quick acting to catch these people after the fact but there still slow acting before the fact .

    @ Don Lemon:
Please check your facts. "Underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab did NOT clam up after being read his Miranda rights. I quote Human Rights First: "It turns out that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is providing current, actionable intelligence about al Qaeda in Yemen, despite having been charged in federal court instead of in a military commission, despite being in civilian law enforcement rather than military custody, despite having been spared torture, despite Miranda warnings, despite having been afforded a lawyer who is advising him every step of the way." I watched with shock your detailed news telecast at approx 1400 hrs EDT today (May 04/10) showing information on how the Times Square bomb was rigged and an explanation on why it did not work!! So now we have umpteeen potential individuals who not only know what materials to use but also the correct way to use them. How's that for security?

I am curious as to how the Time Square alledged bomber was able
to attend Bridgeport University and fund the education to include
returning for his MBA. He was not a naturalize citizen until
April of 2009. Did he get loans, did any one sign for him to become
a citizen, what about his wife. What did she know, is she a citizen.
For an extremist, if he was that, he appeared to be living the normal
life of a young normal man, with his bluetough and Rayban glasses.
He appeared to be the happy normal young man.

An MBA cost money, how was he able to do all of this and have, a
family, kids, wife and house. The American dream.

I just saw a bit with Tom Foreman where he was detailing the construction of the NYC bomb. All the while, I'm asking myself 'why is he doing this?' When he gets around to explaining what the guy should have done differently to create a horrific explosion, I realized that this Foreman is a complete idiot. I don't care what he's done in his career, he's a moron. CNN should have given this guy an IQ test a long time ago and told him to go home and look for another line of work. Freedom of speech is a great concept until it crosses paths with a true dimwit. I could go on......

    with correction to typos....thanks

I just listened to the report from your Tom Forman that showed the audience the details of the car bomb construction used at Times Square. The anchor just referred to the suspect as an amatuer and not a professional due to the bomb not going off. ARE YOU LISTENING TO THE MESSAGES YOU ARE SENDING OUT !!! What comes next, the "How To Report on how to succeed" ????

STOP DOING THIS !!! Your peace loving audience does not need this information and those who are crazy enough to try it themselves should not be helped nor encouraged from the media, the internet or any other source, to become the 'professional'.

Terrorisim seems to be a way of life for the people of that part of the world. They think God approves of this behavior, Ive got news for terrorist. The USA sees things different. You want to commit suicide stay in Pakistan, Irac, Iran Afganistan so on and so forth. He brought his family to America for What? This should be a wakeup call to be more cautious. I hope he gets what he deserves!!

I agree with Tony. This cell wanted to see how quickly we would respond. The goal for these people is to find our weaknesses. This guy was just a decoy. Haven't we seen this before? Something far worse is in store for us and we need to wake up! I don't trust reports of him being stupid. These people are far from stupid. Here we go with our cowboy arrogance again. Maybe it was a set up and that's what they want us to think. Stop letting all these people in our country! We sure can't just move to theirs and become naturalized so easily. When are we going to start closing our borders like other countries? We can mistreat our own – folks who were BORN here by approving racists legislation and laws that target certain races, but we are so eager to allow terrorists to come and invite them to buy up everything and have an abundant life. Soemthing's terribly wrong here.

This is why we have top seal our borders. This is why we cannot give amnesty to illegal immigrants. This is why the government has failed us. This is why we have to profile.

Let's get real and honest- stop calling this a bomb. This nutcase had
a few pieces of junk in his car. No explosives, no detonator and no timer other than a "mickey mouse clock." If this wacho had even one hour training or instruction he could have come up with a better device.
Lets stop patting everyone on the back and giving out expensive promotions. No one moved and no one got hurt. Very simply- NOTHING HAPPENED!

At the news conference, I was shocked no one asked if there was any law enforcement on board the plane, considering they had him under surveillance. If there wasn't then why? If there was then why didn't they feel compelled to divulge that information. what if he tried to hurt someone on the plane? Things could of been worse had he felt cornered. I believe there are many questions that should have been asked but weren't. Granted , not many questions where allowed, but reporters are well aware of time constraints, and must ask the most pressing concerns first and foremost. Also, I'm pretty sure there are extremists out there thanking all you reporters for telling them how to actually make the bomb work. Fertilizer tips? too many components that could go wrong? And oh yeah, don't forget that hidden vin number under the car next time you don't want it traced to you.. Come on now. You know better than that. Let them get red flagged for searching that stuff online.

Hello everyone here. What a shame that in the best country of all people want to see it come down and destroy it once and for all guys. The reason for this guys it could be that this country is showing to much negative stuff out in the public eye and the law enforcement in this country is not doing nothing to stop it people and the ones in the public who is getting the hit is the innocent ones who are someone while the negative ones are staying in the street of america doing the damage thats why people are doing what they are doing to this country because no one has control of it

This gentleman should be tried by the military as a TERRORIST not in our court of law where the taxpayer will foot the bill, where the news coverage will do nothing but fuel their fire. If found guilty by the military he should be shot and buried in an unmarked grave. This gentleman is also a naturalized citizen of the United States therefore the charges of treason should be brought against him as well. I AM AN AMERICAN, A PROUD AMERICAN. I served my country during Viet Nam. I know the enemy when I see him and he is THE ENEMY!!!

Hey everybody, did anybody think that perhaps this guy wanted to have people notice this car? He left the engine running, had the hazzard lights on, & smoke filling the interior of the vehicle. To me, it would seem that if he actually wanted to blow up a car, you do everything you can do to keep it unnoticed so that it can do the job the terrorist intended. Eventually somebody would have come to the car to find out what was going on, right???? According to reports, the "bomb" was so clumsily put together, it had no chance to actually explode. perhaps he was testing our abilities to detect & act on actual threats. Maybe he did us a favor by bringing it to our attention that these threats are real & could happen if we're not careful.

What is interesting is that not one of the 37 thousand police officers stopped the times square waco from driving his car into nyc from connecticut with stolen plates full of gasoline, fireworks and gas tanks in the back seat in open view. He even had his emergency flashers on to say here I am but only a t shirt vendor seemed to notice something wrong. The training he received in pakistan was a joke just like this gross exageration of a huge car bomb exploding and killing thousands. So far the worst case scenario is that the car would have burned and the nyfd would have extinquished the fire within 5 minutes. I think the investigation will reveal that this was only a test . The evacuation of times square went well.

After having read all of the comments on this topic, what astoinishes me most is the fact many of you noted bloggers have chocked this foiled attempt to murdering many innocent people to just a "nutty fruitcake" who didn't know what he was doing. Case closed.
Pardon me, but are we not leaving out something in the law called "With intent to commit......", whatever a plethora of charges there should be. We can't assume anything other than he is a TERRORIST and because he is a naturalized citizen should be charged as a traitor. I also agree he should be swiftly charged by the highest of military court. Look again at his photgraph. This is without a doubt the face of the enemy. Try him. Convict him. Shoot him, and stop this dancing around as we already are with the individual who master minded the downing of the World Trade Center.

Here is another problem.......the government is involved.....people don't know how to read a no fly list....probably don't know what the procedures are to take if someone comes up on the no fly list....and the people in Homeland Security Office just keep making excuses why things don't work.....How about we clean out the Homeland Security Office and fill it with x military personnel that understand security procedures and know how to handle precarious situations.....I say do the profiling the way it should be and detain all that look/act supicious or are flagged......it doesn't take a rocket scientist to identify these people now does it.......and one more thing....lets get over the idea of we might hurt somebodies feelings or intrude on their so called rights.....if it stops a looney bird then so be it.

I am completely annoyed with the immigration debate. Give everyone here their papers after that the remaining needs to be deported until they go through the proper channels to become a citizen. Issue closed. The people who arent citizens are the ones making it an issue. They should have became a citizen legally and this would have never became an issue.

Bet the next attempt will be successful with Eric Holder and all you TV Anchors touting how much smarter you than the bomber: he used the wrong manure, he didn't get all the vin#s off the car (he, he, stupid man) you know there are 12 of them all over the car, he parked in the wrong zone, he did the fireworks poorly, the gas canisters were placed wrong etc. Gee, thanks for showing your brains.

@Tony Smith, my sentiments exactly, I thought of this as a 'dry run' too. This guy is just the pigeon, why else he motor mouth like he is doing. Does he feel set up? No one trained in bombs could be that stupid, especially those people. The next, probably many, will work. That same area is a target, like the 1st attempt on the towers. They kept at it until they got it right.

You know now we know that this guy had job problem and radicalized family background. I am kinda same as this guy's age. 9/11, faith based and terror based politics really made it hard for someone with just a muslim name hard to get a job. Luckily I had this random jewish recruiter girl helped me learn do's and don't in a corporation after I graduated from college. It at least helped me put best foot forward. Every ethnic group goes through ups and down in America. That's just America. Lewis Black discussed in his book that his DAD had to learn to draw in the 60's cuz they wouldn't let jewish engineer work in the private sectors. My point is there are always some option in America regardless of some racism and discrimination. So, you are never in a situation to not make it work. I know its tough sometimes but you can make it work. I never obsess about what other's with different background have as opposed to me because it's not logical.

It is ridiculios how some Pakistani-Americans are trying to play the race card on the terrorist issue. Joseph Stack had a long running feud with the IRS, his suicide attack was just his way of getting out of the huge debt he had with them. What is Faisal Shahzad's reason for trying to blow up innocent civilians?
