Men Battle Postpartum Depression

You may have heard of postpartum depression in women who have just given birth, but a new study shows men can also be affected. The study released in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows one in 10 fathers suffer from it, and in most cases go untreated. The study found new fathers who experience postpartum depressions are generally happy after birth, but the depression starts about three months later. The risk is increased almost 50 percent if the father is living with a mother who suffers from it. Medical experts say both men and women should see a doctor if they start to experience unusual physical or mental changes.

Coming up at 10:30am ET on CNN Newsroom we’ll talk more about this with a doctor and a dad who experienced postpartum depression.

We also want to hear from both mothers and fathers about your experience with postpartum depression.
Post your comments here. Fredricka will read some of them on the air during the 10am ET hour of Newsroom.

The only thing men suffer from after child birth is the screaming baby at early morning hours keeping them awake all night it makes for a tiresome work day the next day .

We adopted a child and both of us had some depression and we were told there is also something known as post adoption depression. It was sure easier for us once we understood this too.

Yeah, she has given birth. Now she is using depression as an excuse. I have to go back to work, do everything she has not started doing again, take care of her, and I have to care for the new child. Her frends and family come over, if you are lucky?, and play with the child but they could help with the house work alittle. Meanwhile she is just not the same person anymore. Something inside her has changed. I asked some friends about it, they say it happened to their wife too and they are not sure they like their wives anymore.

Meditation can be very beneficial to new mothers adjusting to postpartum life. Mommy Meditations can help new moms learn the tools to better handle the adjustment and have a happier, more connected relationship with their baby and partner.

Every living thing on this planet get old and die! If you have not gotten your life together by the time you reach 60/70 years, the end results is all types of depressions. Life is a cycle. Humans use life for the wrong reason, and as a results, everything goes wrong.
