Good Deed Gone Bad

A worker at a Subway restaurant had her life turned upside down when she was displaced from her Nova Scotia apartment building. A fire damaged some of her neighbors' apartments, and she gave them her apartment because they had no money or food.

But her generosity may have cost her the job. Her neighbors stopped by the Subway while she was working and she gave them two six-inch sandwiches.

Then she got some unexpected bad news. She says Subway fired her because they saw her on camera giving away the free sandwich.

Employees are entitled to a free foot-long sandwich for each shift they work, but it has to be recorded as a staff lunch. She says that with everything going on, it slipped her mind and she forgot to write it down.

Subway issued this statement: "We are aware of the situation in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and the dismissal of an employee there by a franchise owner. However, each Subway restaurant is individually owned and operated by an independent franchisee, and personnel matters are handled by each individual restaurant owner, who are required to follow all applicable labor laws. That said, we are concerned about the situation, and are investigating with the local franchise owner to find out exactly what the circumstances are.”

Our question for you: Do you think she should have lost her job for doing this good deed, and what are some of the good deeds people have done for you?

Post your responses to this blog and we’ll read some of them on the CNN Newsroom this morning at 10 am ET.
