According to the man's widow, the man's ashes were split into 3 urns and put in a backpack he used for his travels to Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Tax dollars used to round up stray animals and kill them, is an injustice. Further injustice ensues when the department accused of wrong doing, is allowed to investigate themselves.

My heart is broken by this senseless violence against the very animals that were supposed to have "shelter". Innocents that couldn't speak up for themselves. I run a rescue in SC and the things that have happened there need to be brought to light so that more innocent animals dont die at the hands of people who are supposed to be caring for them! I have 8 dogs. We saved a Rottweiler who was pregnant and we have 6 of the puppies, now 1 year 4 months old. We got a Mixed Rottweiler from SAWL in Florence, SC. I have one who showed up at my house in 2002, the pads and her body were pale and she was covered in ticks, which I picked off. She has Ehrlichia and now is healthy otherwise. All of my dogs are faithfull and are great companions. If I had the money and land, I would love to have a "No Kill" shelter.
More laws need to be made to protect animals and more punishment for the ones who abuse, neglect and don't want them. I think keeping dogs on chains should be outlawed accross the USA.

This is just as bad as shelters who sell these victims to researchers to torture. It is unbelievable what we have come to accept. Was this an issue of the cost of the bullet being lower then feeding or even euthanizing humanely? With Paws and Claws being a consistent source in finding homes for these dogs? There is no excuse for this and someone who worked there should have reported it as soon as they knew it was happening. I think I read there were some old bones found as well so how long has this been going on? God Bless the Little Souls that died in such a cruel manner. Justice to those who knew of it, condoned it and pulled the trigger.

22 dogs shot and killed, why? Because, I agree that this is the tip of the iceberg. As of last September, according to shelter records, it was reported that only two vials of Phenobarbital which is used to euthanize animals there were purchased. Depending on weight, that's enough to put down approximately 14 dogs. Further, it was reported, also according to the shelter's records 80 or more animals were euthanized between September and as of last week. That means 66 or more animals are unaccounted for... that's just one reason this story should air and be "investigatively reported". This case needs national eyes on it, to ensure that justice is served and that evidence won't slip through the cracks, or mishandled, or covered up. If an example is made, there is chance it will expose more cases such as these across the country where animals are being inhumanely treated and killed while in the care of animal shelters, and/or while handled by animal control officers. I just heard of another case this morning in another state that swept under the rug some time ago. This insanity must stop and the only way is via public outcry. Please help.

National attention needs to be brought to this horrible act. They say the Chesterfield Shelter was underfunded but yet they seem to be able to purchase 4 new SUVs with all the bells and whistles last year. Michael Vic was convicted...these people need to be convicted also. And don't tell me the Sheriff "had no idea what was happening". His office is right there....he or his deputies didn't hear 22 gun shots and question it???I think if I was a resident of Chesterfield I would be a little concerned...Something good need to come out of this so people need to spread the word and not let this go away....

We cannot allow these people to get away with these evil actions...it was MURDER-plain and simple. They were NOT doing the dogs a favor by taking them out to a "target practice field" and shooting them verses injecting them with needle!!! From what I understand all but 6 of the dogs had rescues. They had homes to go to...but instead they were dragged out of their cages and made to what?....stand together while each one was shot?!! Or were they let loose while the killers used them as target practice? The evil subhumans guilty of these crimes need to be brought to justice...and not given a PAID leave of absence. The Nation and World, (yes it has reached outside of the United States) need to see that we are not going to sit back and let this type of treatment continue to take place in America. One more thought...a local news station I believe has reported that the Shelter Director had a criminal background. Why are employees hired without background checks? It seems the 'good ol' boy' tactics are still being allowed into the system.
Animal control facilities and 'humane' shelters are euthanizing perfectly healthy animals on a daily basis...a closeted mass murder in every county in America that no one seems to want to talk about. While most inject healthy dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and pregnant animals to remove them so that more can be collected (which is an issue in itself), some facilities are using more barbaric tools such as gas chambers, heart sticks, and at Chesterfield County, SC's Animal Control facility, bullets. Animal Control employees from the local facility took dozens of dogs from their cages and used them for target practice, gunning them down and burying them at a sand pit across the street. The facility run by the local sheriff’s department is under investigation by SLED. The irony is that most of these dogs were about to be rescued and the rescue group that worked in the facility states that it was an act of revenge for their push to remove the gas chamber there. These depraved acts happen under the radar every day, but until the media focuses on them and this nationwide system of abuse, they will continue. Please bring this story to light...
My choice is the 22 dogs (known about). Several of them were puppies that were turned loose on the shooting range and used as targets!
