First, my heart and prayers go out to those affected by the many tornadoes during this active spring season.
As hard it is to think about, there will be more tornadoes.
We need to be prepared for the rest of this tornado season. I worry about people being in their cars during a tornado warning...
I remember being stuck in traffic, looking in my rear view mirror seeing a tornado in the horizon. Fortunately, it was a long distance away and it did not touch the ground. However, there were many drivers stuck in traffic, listening helplessly to the warnings on the radio. I believe the following should be set up for drivers who are on the roads.
For every off ramps of highways and for every intersections of roads; there should be signs pointing people to places to take cover. For rural areas, it could be a convenient or gas station. For urban areas, it could be a major grocery or pharmacy store. These places should have reinforced areas, such as a freezer or other storage area. These rooms would be places for people to take cover.
You have seen those hurricane evacuation signs pointing people to shelters. We should make tornado evacuation signs pointing people to stores with these reinforced rooms as mentioned above.
We should develop a tornado evacuation system for people who are in their cars; having these may save lives for those who are on the road.
What are your thoughts on this concept?
