A Conservative Problem With Rap?

Conservative pundits rushed to condemn the White House for inviting "controversial" rapper Common to perform at a poetry reading on Wednesday night. Until this week, however, few people would have used the word "controversial" in the same sentence with Common's name. CNN's Don Lemon brought in an expert panel to talk about the uproar.

When the rap idolizes cop killers and presidential assassinations, shows disrespect for women, inappropriate language, yea, I have a real problem with it.

rap doesn't idolize cop killers. that is another narrow minded republican speaking, i'm sure of it... the verse about burning bush had nothing to do with literally lighting the former president on fire. It was disapproval of his methods and motives yes, but common had absolutely not violent intent or undertones in that stanza. It's ok to not understand hip-hop music, but to criticize something you don't understand is naive and foolish. A lot of heavy metal and rock music has far worse messages than what u find in hip-hop, yet you target the genre that has predominantly AA artists, even though your children are the primary consumers purchasing the products. Open up.

Reminds me of when conservatives went after Rock music in the 50-90's. And when they went after Jazz & Swing be for that.... They must lead very quiet and dull lives, no wonder they are so angry....
