Brooke is joined by heartbroken mother Amber Strickland, whose son recently died of meningitis on August 5th. Health officials have recently confirmed that a deadly amoeba, already blamed for the death of another teenager earlier this month, was the cause of his illness.
My heart goes out to Ms. Strickland and her family. When my oldest son was 9 years old he almost died from meningococcemia. I remember sitting in his room thinking what I was going to bury him in. It was a terrible time and I feel the pain that Amber and her family are going through. My son survived this only to slip on ice when he was 26 years old and sustain a traumatic brain injury. He is now 40 years old and has been in a nursing home for 12 years. Please convey my sympathy to the Stricklands. Thank you.
My prayers are for you and your family during such a sad time. But remember to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord God loved him too.
Mrs. Strickland, this is tragic beyond belief – I am so sorry for the loss of your precious son. As the mother of two kids around your son's age, I appreciate your selflessness in trying to let others know about these amoebas.
