The Military policing and possibly shooting US citizens should not be tolerated. This is the start of Martial Law in America! They are just using this as an excuse to use troops on our own soil and desensitize the mass public. Don't fall for this! Don't allow this in your city, neighborhoods, parks, malls, schools, your backyards!!!

wow!!!! these officials are so clueless. crime is a factor of money and drugs. how about someone pass laws were the state regulates drugs, thus taking money out the black market...........O wait that cant happen then we would actually make a change(sarcasm)

I saw the news about the young child that was shot in a drive by. very tragic and condolences to the family. But then I flipped the channel over to see a local Sheriff in New Orleans purchasing a full automatic gernade launcher and machinegun to be mounted on his 32' patrol boat (that could have paid for 2 officers for a year). It seems the Shreiff has his priorities and that is drug smugglers. Prohibition breed crime! Judge for yourself about murder rates being closely related to prohibition murder rates 1900 to present.

Totally agree with you, Bayliner2655. If only we could take half the money put into the drug "war" and use it to treat the problem, which is addiction to drugs and the demand for them...I work with addicts and our New Orleans drug rehab centers ( )are full of kids who would've benefited from more education and PREVENTION. Aka working on our society's problems and caring for our citizens rather than just going out and waging a "war".

i studied some neuroscience and pharmacology and have learned that like 70% or more of crime is drug is because they cost like 20x more than they would if they were decriminalized (not legalizing)...just look at what happened to portugal when they decriminalized 10 years ago..massive reductions in crime and prison population not to mention crime..

Was down there recently. Never again. Was walking along Decatur St. after leaving Cafe Du Monde at 11AM. Guy walks up to my wife's side and pushes her into the building and tries to pull her pocketbook off her. But she held on and started yelling and he took off. Later the next night, there was an all out brawl on Bienville St just off Bourbon St. while we were there. The place is a mess. And absolute mess.

Hey, you took all the guns away from the law-abiding citizens - What did you expect?

I just was in NOLA and there had been some crime, but I must say that no one played any games with me. After all, I'm a white middle aged man who is street wise, lethal to my adversaries and smart.

It would be unfair to claim the crime in NOLA is due to anyone other than blacks. I have no issues with the blacks that I met when I was there. They seemed friendly, competent and responsive to courtesy. Still, the true, hard core criminals come from the black neighborhoods that surround the main, touristy areas.

What's wrong with the black community that they can't control their own criminal elements? Please, explain this.

Your right Reality X! But you didn't go far enough. African Americans in New Orleans are responsible for 99% of the violence. I'm sorry but it's the truth. They need to get their "community" in order.

looks like mexico, how many thousands of people are going to die now. america is fast becoming a third world country where its legal to get guns but not smoke weed, this is so messed up, we have gun crime in the U>k but to get a gun legally is hard and would be easier to go into space, im not throwing rocks as we have our own problems over in blighty lol

martial law? do you have any idea what powers and rights you are giving up if they implement that? you cannot drive your car, you cannot spend money without approval from govenment. you cannot go out on the street without fear of your oppresive police government shooting you down or placing you in a FEMA camp made for "natural disasters". search FEMA camps in US. there are hundreds my friend. we are not truely free.

Too many guns on the street is the problem with La. People say its there right blah blah blah but seriously people + guns =kill. Unless your a officer or military no one needs to carry them outside there homes. Its too EASY to get a gun today and thats the problem. Dont blame drugs. Wake up people GUNS are causing death. This isnt the wild wild west anymmore. I live in La and it seems like 8 out of 10 people have a gun. Guns are for destruction and to cause harm and kill.

I understand the arguments... But I wonder if those who scream about drugs being decriminalized would have the same gusto if it was their mom, dad, brother, sister, husband, wife, child, etc got shot in the face while picking up the mail from the street. By the way, crime going down if "everyone" could use drugs? Hmmmm, people on crystal meth and PCP doesn't endanger the public does it? The fact that marijuana could contribute to schizophrenia and other mental issues isn't a problem at all right? Did crime go down in "Needle Park"? Sounds like some selfish people just want to smoke pot in their living rooms and they are using the death of a little girl to prove their point. God bless America. "Oh say can you see!"

And "crime being out of control in New Orleans" is different from the status quo (pre or post Katrina) exactly how?

I have always wanted to come and visit, but after reading about the crime there, I don't think so, By the way did they learn anything from Katrina,, they should be getting on their knees thanking GOD that they are still here.

Black Leaders need to stand up and be an positive influence in New Orleans. The black male is out of control and fathers as role models are absent. Martial Law in America will not change things until fathers take responsibility for their children. Quit having babies until you can afford to stick around to take care of them. First step to long term solution.

I live in New Orleans. A 53 year old woman was gang-raped by 6 cowards who the police are still looking for. The crime in New Orleans is horrible out of control. The coward criminals are in charge of this city. The mayor, city council and police chief all are incompetent and just don't care. A 2 yr old was shot and 11 year old was shot and both died. We need the National Guard down here but do you think those officials are going to get them. NO they are not they on;t care enough to get the guard.New Orleans needs to be shut down if we have to go through this abuse. The criminals shoot at the police etc. This place is so crazy they put more emphasis on parking tickets and red light camera tickets than on crime. They keep letting these same criminals back on the street. We elect these people and they turn their backs on us. All these officials want to do is earn a paycheck. The criminals are worse than animals because animals only kill for food and act on instinct. The Bible says that satan comes to steal kill and destroy this is exactly what these demons are doing..

"Black Leaders need to stand up and be an positive influence in New Orleans."

Funny sentence! Black -> positive influence...

You could probably just as well ask the sun to stop shining on the moon.

"The black male is out of control and fathers as role models are absent."

Are you implying that the black female is NOT out of control and mothers as role models are NOT absent?
