This is a totally uncalled for incident with the navigational aids and electronics on these modern cruise ships. What would happen if the Captain of a commercial airliner deviated off course on a whim so a crew member could fly over a point of interest they wanted to see prior to landing? It would lead to utter chaos in the air at the major hubs throughout the world. When you have no discipline at the helm it's a recipe for disaster.

When was the pilot due to come aboard? Was there an arrangement in place for a pilot? Once a pilot comes aboard, he assumes control of the ship and is usally aware of rocks, reefs or other impediments.

SO is there any chance of chaining the ship to the shore. Drill a few reinforced pylons into the shore and toss a few hooks into the ship to prevent it from its intermittent sliding into the ocean. Additionally why haven't the siphoned out the fuel yet. There are worries about it potentially leaking so DRAIN IT.
