my feelings only; about school lunches.i grew up eating school lunches just like anybody else,i am not nor have i ever been over weight.most of the time that was my only meal of the day,and there is a lot more of that now with the economy like it is.it is not the school lunches that are un healthy it is what they eat after they get home.most of the big cities the children cant get out because of the dangers they face so they are int he house getting bored, and therefore eating more.i go to school and eat lunch with my grandaughters from time to time.they are NOT over weight from eating that (stuff) they are over weight from what they eat at home.this problem lyes with the parents NOT the school lunches.you must leave the school lunche alone for the sake of the children that only eat that meal for that day

Hi Melissa, I can't say that I agree with the action the scoohl took, although I do understand it from a business perspective. I had a brief discussion about the story with my last class of the day today. It was interesting to hear what high scoohl students had to say about it. Of the four students I had in class, three seemed to agree with the scoohl's action although I'm sure if they were the ones denied lunch they would change their minds. I plan to have the discussion with a much larger (23 students) class tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how those students react to the story.Richard

I live in a small town Albany, Ky. I was watching the Rachel Ray show and heard the two of you talking about the school lunches. It's wonderful to hear that something is being done to help the children to eat better. The only thing is it seems to only effect the bigger cities. The lunches our children at eating here is not well balanced and half the time not eaten. When I look to see what they are having for the day it is always something on a bun, chicken strips, pizza, or hot pockets. I would love for someone to come hear and help our little town learn how to feed our kids healthier.
There's so many small towns in the US that needs the help just as much or more than the big cities. Please help our children.
Thank you,
Sheila Morris

Thanks, this is a great list. I’m now following around half the folks I’ve commented on – so for me this has been a double win – the comment and the further reading material that helps me and my blog!
