It's Chicago, the land of gangs and the Democratic Mob, they deserve nothing less then what they get. I was born in Chicago and fortunately had parents who made the decision to leave when I was young. I look upon it as a once great city that now has a dismal future.
Perhaps Chicago now recognizes that when guns are outlawed, outlaws go unchecked and are the only group that is safer for it.
You are either predator, or prey. Politicians who oppose gun ownership, and the right to carry, live in a fantasy world. They think these animals have common decency and respect for human life. I am sure their attitude would change if they actually had a clue what goes on in the real world.
She wants to address poverty starting from the top down. Didn't we try that already with the "War on Poverty" that's been in effect for going on 50 years now? And hasn't violence increased during that time?
Not saying we need to dismantle it all or that I have the answers, but I don't think addressing poverty "from the top down" has a good track record.
throwing people in jail isnt the answer...as a matter of fact it might be even worse...this gives one time to think of tighting up the screws in a mob and actually provides a meeting place..how many people do you know that say's you know being in jail is the answer and the solution as we build more jails and shut down all the schools in the community because of no funding? but yet the city can afford all this technology for combating gangbangers,does anyone see the systematic problem?....and you wonder why kids think police are the enemy..do you think police will actually sit there and have a genuine talk with you? maybe some but not enuff..put better education in the hood with jobs..flood the poverish community with money ..bet you it would change drasticly!! jail is systematicly geared to tear you down..not build you up...never sen anyone say jail made me a better man...ever!!
I live in Chicago and feel reasonably safe. Granted there is the flash mob. But there are lots of cameras too. Which catch a lot. Otherwise can figure that most people who kill people want to take the risk. So figure most murders are the result of bad blood between people who know each other. But there are also intimidation murders over righteous causes too. Which will typically put storeowners and taxidrivers and service people at risk. So best advice is to stay away. And hope that the police can find people willing to testify that they saw something. Maybe Sharpton could appeal to people to cooperate with the police. Maybe that would help.
But, all those gun laws make us safe... Criminals will ALWAYS have access to guns, period. Wise up, arm the honest citizens.
What a surprise. All the gun nuts have come out with the same old tired arguments. Yah, lack of guns is the problem. All these poor "honest" citizens have more guns than they know what to do with. Being ambushed on the sidewalk or on your porch wouldn't happen if you had your shoot'n iron, right? They'd support guns for excons if they could. Typical right wing mental illness.
And we are worried about stopping the violence in Syria. How many thousands are killed each year in Urban America?
What did the band Chicago mean with their song "25-06-24"? That sounds like this coming Monday – June 25th, year 2012 could be 2 x 12 = 24. So I guess police in Chicago better make sure they hang on to their hats on Monday & do their jobs. A storm's trying to come in. But I think it will blow away before it makes landfall, no worries.
I live in Chicago, and like panorain, feel reasonably safe. However, I believe the root cause of the gun violence is lack of education. These kids drop out of school or in some way or another slip through the cracks of the educational system (and in Chicago, we have HUGE issues with our public school system!) and in many ways are simply following suit of what they have been raised around - gun violence. It's really a deeper issue than simply gun laws. Whether you can or cannot own a gun is a moot point. It's truly a deeper social issue and I hope it gets better.
All of the victims may have been innocent bystanders lol. The Chicago cops need to stop eating donuts and start patroling.
Plus they get like a million days off a year.
With so much violence. When are they going to call the National Guard? I strongly believe they would have already done this if Whites were being killed. Recently, In Seattle, Washington 7 whites were killed as a result of gun violence, and suddenly it became the #1issue in the city. It wasn't an issue for the first 15 gun related deaths involving minorities. This is clear and unpretentious racism.
I believe the problem is even more systemic than education or guns or money ... I believe it starts with the family unit which is where you are supposed to learn to value life, education, learn to work hard, learn to play well with others, in fact learn most everything. With the lack of two parents and sometimes only one who's too busy just trying to keep the boat afloat, these are the root causes of many of our problems. I hate to say it, but we need to get back to the days when you found a job, met a mate, fell in love, got married, then raised a family - sounds old-fashioned but it's the CORE problem that causes the other trickle-down problems, imho.
Chicago is a great city, because unlike in other cities these deaths only affect gang members. If you're a black male under 25 and you hang out with gang members, then yeah you should be worried. Otherwise, just sit back and let the streets clean up themselves.
I am from Chicago, lived there for 21 years. I love my city and there is none better... now this is not dismissing its problems, just stating my feelings on my home. The problem is not with the guns, its with the parents who don't teach their kids anything and/or their peers/ media/ etc. We glorify this crap and expect a good society? You can't bake it and eat all at the same time you know? I grew up with good parents and a little brother. I was taught respect for people and also weapons I may have. I own swords and guns but I will never use any of them unless I really had to. That's respect for the people and also the weapons I have. I am a Christian, taught to live by the Word and that has had a big effect on my life. My mom kept me out of trouble and taught me about her life so I wouldn't go the same route. So I am a 23 year old African American without kids, got a job, house, etc. People need to teach their kids the real stuff and not this new crap they promote. Can't spank ur kid? Frowning on God? Morals are changed? No I think God is crucial, punishment is needed, and morals need to go back to their objective meanings. Human subjectivity screws life up lol
Why is it that mostly black areas are crime ridden. Its the parent of these kids that should be shot, you see I say parent because most have no father in their lives. And yes more guns equal more safety.

We should have a gun registry like Canada. That way when a criminal kills someone we'll know it's not one of the registered gun owners because criminals don't have registered firearms.
I don't understand this at all. Illinois is the only state in the union with no provision to allow it's citizens to carry weapons, ergo it is against the law to carry a gun. Chicago has virtually no legal way to carry a gun, concealed or not, so it is against the law to have a weapon in any way.
So, Chicago, IL by definition MUST be one of the safest, if not THE safest city in America.
So, new gun laws will help to prevent the violence that the current gun laws cannot?

there should be an IQ test for voting and to have children. everywhere. immediately. What would the next election be like...hmmm. tough call.

Chicago is a great city & a safe one for people who aren't animals. Once again the reputation of the city is getting tarnished because of the few who are hell bent on killing one another in certain areas. You can change all the rules about gun laws you want, it won't matter. The people killing aren't buying guns legally & get around all the laws already in place. It's gang crimes and I hate that anyone dies from any violence but I don't see it stopping until the people in these areas do something about it themselves. For starters, stop having kids if you can't raise them to be responsible citizens. who respect life.

Let's see...a lack of family structure: Famous Chicagoan, Barack Obama, now supports that anyone can marry anyone, which means marriage has no meaning, which means there will be less marriage and less family structure.
Next up "...a lack of community structure.": Famous Chicagoan, Barack Obama, was a community organizer in Chicago. Way to go Barack!! Did you get lots of welfare and community "support" arranged there in Chicago. Maybe you need to learn how to organize the economy and create some jobs for people.
Chicago is a microcosm of things to come in food stamp nation.
Just like the blacks did it for freedom, today blacks got tofollw a path and stick to it that keeps them disassociated with those that want to be drug dealers and or hang out with them because to them its exciting. Those that get tangled up with the gang associations are labeling themselves and are being target because of their indicisive way. Stay clear, lay low from anything that is not straight and narrow. Even it you have to go out of your way to be safe...parents teach your children they will end of up dead if they play or associate with people who make contact with drug dealers, the destruction will come home because your child has been identified with one who had once associated with that kind. And for you young men that don't really know your home boys, don't hang out with them. Keep your self busy with school, homework, TV, Church activities and out of town sports travel. There pleny to do, just stay away from trash, even if they are friends, family. Keep your distance, you can love them and pray for them but don't hang out or in with them, especially if they hang with and or around people that are willing to kill to make a easy, fast living.
Martial law should be declared in Chicago! Military troops should move ito work along side the cops.These gangsters need to be hunted down like rabid animals and eliminated. Build bigger prisons! Life imprisonments!
One of my goals in life was to take my family to Chicago and explore its great historical sites..."was" is the operative word.
certainly like your web site but you have to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I find it very troublesome to inform the truth nevertheless I will definitely come again again.
