BCBS in Massachusetts has sent out to it's brokers, (and I am one), changes being made to all existing group plans currently in force for business with 1-50 employees., specifically due to the AHC. No longer will groups 1-50 be able to keep the plan currently available for higher deductible PPO plans. If you want a PPO plan, you have to lower the deductible to $500, which makes it extremely expensive!. If a company cannot afford the PPO/Blue Care Elect plans, they now have to settle for an HMO type of coverage. That means they will be unable to continue going to their current doctors.
I am looking for a new Primary care physician and I have been calling over 35 referred pcp's in the area and they are no longer taking new patients.
In the industry of insurance and investment advisory, professionals and corporations marketing, selling, or recommending products to clients are fined or loose their licenses if they market those products using deceptive language or false promises. Businesses all over America are subject to legal action if they practice deceptive and unfair business practices. The Executive Branch of our government should be held to the same standard of fair and nondeceptive language and promises when "selling" a law to the American public. We are told that the last election was a referendum on this law. No one knew what this law was until now. I certainly felt safe, in a state where we already had "premium" coverage, and mandatory coverage for everyone in the state, that my plan in my company that I sponsor for my employees would be safe. I never thought that the ACA would make mandatory changes necessary for BCBS to change their plans.
There is so much being said about the individual plans being "upgraded" because all of these "poor duped consumers" were paying for lousy coverage. That is not true! My plan was one of the most expensive in the state of MA, and yeet the cost is still going up and being changed due to "OBAMACARE". It is unbelievable the false marketing statements that are being deliberately created by this administration to "sell" this to the american people.
There are other ways to fix the problems with coverage. Mandate that any insurance company writing insurance in any state cannot write unless they provide coverage to everyone, regardless of a pre-existing condition. we could subsidize the uninsured directly with a government program for less money than this program is costing. They have guaranteed that the insurance companies actually do not even have a market driven/price driven underwriting process now that this is law. They are just hiking their premiums to make sure they are covering all the potential losses from all the aspects of the law that they need to offer in the exchanges, and ppassing along even more costs to the non-exchanged-private plans, like the BCBS plans for 1-50 employees.
